Gemstones on the Red Carpet

Awards show season has seen a gorgeous array of gemstones being paraded up red carpets from London to Los Angeles: let's take a look at some of the key trends of 2016!

One of the biggest stories this year was emeralds, particularly in statement earrings. Wearing the jewel in the photos above are Jennifer Garner, Saoirse Ronan, Julianne Moore, Laverne Cox and Jaimie Alexander, but my absolute favourites are Taraji P. Henson's giant emerald drops (top left), by Kimberley McDonald.

In the Gemstones Brazil store, we have Brazilian emeralds in an enormous array of cuts, including some rarer and more unusual cuts, as well as emerald cabochon.

Two other gemstones particularly stood out on the red carpet this year: ruby and sapphire.

On the top row are Annabelle Wallis and Charlotte Rampling, both looking utterly regal in their ruby earrings by Chopard and De Grisogono.

Opting for a fresher look are Tina Fey and Saoirse Ronan, each in statement sapphire necklaces; in our store you will find both sapphire and sapphire cabochon in a range of cuts and colours.

Finally, my very favourite piece of jewellery worn on the red carpet in 2016 has to be Leslie Mann's Irene Neuwirth choker of opals and tourmalines. If you're looking to commission a piece as individual as this, we can supply all of the gemstones you need, from Ethiopian opals, to tourmaline in an array of cuts and shades (check out this watermelon tourmaline in an emerald cut). We also have the celebrated Paraiba tourmaline and tourmaline cabochon.

We will explore these stones in more detail in October, whose birthstones are the opal and tourmaline.
